LYIT honoured at 2009 IDI Design Awards
At one of the presentations introducing LYIT’s new visual identity to staff and faculty we fielded a tough question. Would our design in any way lead to an increase in the numbers or the quality of applicants applying to the institute? Not, we answered, if the process amounted to nothing more than putting the same old product in a shiny new package.
LYIT recently jumped a few notches up the rankings of Ireland’s Institutes of Technology and our work landed a spot as a finalist in the visual identity category of the 2009 IDI Design Awards. Coincidence? Perhaps. But proof, we think, that a real change is taking place at LYIT and our work is just one expression of it.

An Grianán turns 10
People living in a metropolitan area may find it hard to fathom just how big an impact a single theatre can have on the cultural life of a rural community. For 10 years now, An Grianán has immeasurably enriched the lives of the Northwest. We congratulate Patricia McBride, Daithi Ramsey, and the rest of the staff on their anniversary season and thank them for allowing us to be a part of their success. It was an honour to design the posters for their masterful co-production with Belfast’s Lyric Theatre of Brian Friel’s ‘The Home Place’. (By the way, anyone recognise the home in the image?)

Burke's Farm takes gold
Bernie Burke didn’t win a Great Taste Award because of our packaging design for her wonderful line of farm-made ice creams. She won it because of the exceptionally rich milk she gets from the Burke family’s Jersey Cows, and because she put years of hard work into developing the perfect ice cream out of the best natural ingredients. We hope our packaging helps convey that to the rest of the world. Congratulations Bernie – and keep the samples coming.

Corvil goes clear of the competition
High-frequency traders have long been obsessed about shaving microseconds off the time it takes them to execute a transaction. According to our client, Corvil, this amounts to an unnecessary and expensive arms race. What good is investing in complex high-speed technology if you can’t see the little latency bumps that could send your order skidding off the road?
Corvil asked us to help them communicate to the trading world that being fast requires more than speed. There was just one hitch – we had to create a unified campaign out of the grab bag of stock imagery. It appears to be working. One after another, the world’s traders are adding CorvilClear to their arsenal.
